Visit the cosmopolitan and compact town of Lille, the birthplace of Charles de Gaulle, close to the Belgian border. The city has an interesting history, architecture and gardens. It can either be visited as a day trip by Eurostar or as a short stay which would include a visit to the surrounding Flanders region. Lille is easily accessible from the UK by Eurostar train.
