WAITING FOR TRANSLATION TEXT OUR POLICY ON FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR CHILDREN ON SCHOOL VISITS
If you feel that a child would benefit from being able to take part in a school journey that you are organising through us, but you are aware that the parents are reluctant to send the child because of their financial circumstances, it is possible that we may be able to help.
As a registered charity, The School Journey Association strongly believes in inclusion, and doesn’t want any child to miss out. One of the prime purposes of The School Journey Association is to support children from disadvantaged families or with special needs who might not otherwise be able to participate in school trips. For this reason, we may be able to offer a grant of up to 50% of the school cost trips to help individual children from disadvantaged families to participate.
The School Journey Association aims to support disadvantaged children in the following ways:
- Every child, who is entitled to Free School Meals travelling on a visit organised by School Journey Association will receive a price reduction. The amount of this reduction will be assessed each year.
- Children from disadvantaged families, travelling on a visit organised by School Journey Association,
identified by the trip organiser/headteacher who have special circumstances will be considered by the Board of Trustees for a special grant to reduce the cost of their visit. The trip organisers must complete the appropriate SJA form and give supporting evidence where appropriate. - Any child on the special needs register, travelling on a visit organised by School Journey Association, requiring extra costly support will be considered by the Board of Trustees for a special grant to reduce the cost of the visit. The trip organiser/headteacher must complete the appropriate SJA form and give supporting evidence where appropriate.
- Schools using School Journey Association to organise a visit with Youth Hostel accommodation can apply for further subsidy towards half the cost of the accommodation. This funding will be considered by the YHA.
Further independent methods of support for children from disadvantaged families have been identified. For more information, please read ‘Supporting Participation in Educational Visits’.
Please Contact The School Journey Association to request further details about the application process. The aim of the School Journey Association is to equalise the opportunities of children whatever their circumstance. No child should miss out.
All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence and in accordance with the data protection regulations of the Information Commissioner’s Office.
